What is QOD treatment?

QOD treatment is a new type of hair treatment that uses keratin-based (the primary protein of hair) products to reduce frizzy and curly hairs, giving clients smoother and straighten hair look. It is also known as keratin smoothing treatment and originated from Brazil. The revolutionary QOD treatment not only replenishes the condition of the hair without damaging its molecular structure but is also effective on any kind of hair, even damaged hair. While QOD keratin products do not contain manufactured formaldehyde, it consists of an FDA-accepted process that mimics formaldehyde. During treatment, the stylist will wash the hair with a clarifying shampoo to strip away impurities. Then keratin is applied on the hair. Next, the hair is blown dry and infused with a 450-degree flat iron to trap the moisture and hydration in the hair, giving a smooth, glossy finish. Usually, a session takes about 1 to 3 hours depending on the hair volume. Clients may do it as often as they like since it is a conditioning treatment. The effects of QOD treatment typically lasts for 5 months minimum, and even longer in some.

For a long-lasting result, there are a number of dos and don’ts. 3 days after treatment, straightened hair should be avoided from getting wet, putting behind the ears, tying back, or using bands and clips. This is to avoid kinking and denting of the straightened hair. Clients are advised not to wash their hair daily to prolong the effects of keratin. It is best to wash the hair only 2 or 3 times a week.

For hair care products, it is recommended to use shampoos and conditioners that are salt-free (sodium chloride) and sulfate-free. This is because sodium dissolves keratin and sulfate may strip off keratin from treated hair. One can check the list of ingredients stated on the packaging of hair products.
